not really, I've even seen people on youtube pretend to play "challenge" hacks for difficulty and still use revives in battles
they are delusional
The rules are legit though, they are the ones already enforced in battle facillities and exp sahre off to not abuse it to overlevel, you may turn it on to bring up a new party member I guess

It barely comes into play anyway though, as battles with potions are rare, and even then it's rare I'll actually use one. You'd have to go to annoying lengths to actually be equal with the AI.

Exp share off is not really my cup off tea. While I like having the difficulty, grinding just adds more tedium.

you don't have to grind though, unless you fight most trainers to train normally
with the exp share on you will be overleveled for important fights which defeats the purpose of "boss fight"

Then what if I catch a Stufful or some other Mon halfway thru the game and want to use it? Switching in and out is just draining.

Go back to the restaurant to level it up, honestly it's a matter of being consistent, if you really find it that hard without the exp share, do whatever, but know that you are using it wrong and when you complain about the difficulty you deserve to be ridiculed

The modern games are different from the old games, though.
Generally wild mons are at high levels, so you almost don't even need to grind when you catch new ones.

also use the amie to pet it and give it bonuses in exp gain
that works even better to actually bond with your pokemon and requires some dedication and gameplay as intended, better than overpowering everything with level advantage
