That's why I said Gen 8 would need to flop as well. It isn't really about them not having enough money to survive through decades of flops but more about the fact that it would send a big message if multiple mainline Pokémon games flopped. They would surely change things up to make sure Pokémon survives forever since it's basically a money printing machine.

Oh I see how you're confused, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, and USUM are called 3rd versions because their base games are split in two. Stupid I know but that's why, I agree that calling them 2nd versions would make more sense. Gamefreak refers to them as enhanced versions.

When both USUM & Gen 8 flops b/c people realized they were tricked into buying a Beta version & DLC copy as Gen 7.

Then GF will do what 2K (basketball division) did and bully reviewers and websites to give them good ratings so the average fan won't see the true backlash its receiving from loyal fans. 2k18 was caught for their micro transitions scam and a poor release quality.
