>>34085449Sadly I think the 3DS era will largely be remembered as disappointing. Don't get me wrong, there's definitely some positives, and I don't think they're as bad as people claim they are, but they're definitely lacking, and they just don't live up to the potential that Pokemon has.
These games could have been revolutionary, and really rejuvenated the series, or at the very least, could have been a collection of the very best features from all previous versions, polished and improved upon.
But in reality, what did we get? A graphical update, that's good, but not amazing. Mega evolution and Z-moves. These are the major features of the games, and they're largely lack-luster, that although conceptually 'fun' ideas, they largely cause problems and have caused great unbalance to the competitive side of play.
We also had the removal of past features, and seemingly have lesser content now than ever before. I can't remember becoming so bored of the games quite as quickly, as I have done with Gen 6/7.
The only really major positive I can find for the games, is the removal of HMs, which should have been done a long time ago, and isn't really anything to get excited about. But it shows again how disappointing gen 7 has been, when that's the one major stand out feature.
