There was nothing this intrusive in any other game. Also, people are a lot more vocal now because they are tired of it.

You're seriously misremembering. I've replayed XY a few time and they only ever show up a handful of times, and generally in the background of story related moments anyway.

1. At the start of the game.
2. When you get Kanto starter.
3. Parfum Palace
4. Mega Evolution tower section.

That's the only major appearances. Meanwhile in SM you're getting tailed by Lillie, Hau and Kukui in every fucking route. Plus tons of other annoying NPC's. It's not even comparable.

Yeah he's annoying as fuck, and sm/using took this to new levels, but I don't understand how some of the same people complaining still manage to put gen 5 on a pedestal. Those games started the railroading and arbitrary barriers. They started the unnecessary and jarring forced interactions with characters blasting you with text. Remember in bw2 when Adler ambushes you twice within a few minutes, the second time being so desperate to hinder your progress that he jumps off a cliff? Remember the forced pokestar shit? And join avenue? Get real.

There are a lot of reasons why am suck. The shitty pokemon for one. The only generation where I have a hard time picking 6 mons native to the region. And the lack of post game. Not a fixed level battle facility. Thats not post game. Thats a minigame/side content almost meta. I mean shit you can do to tie up loose ends, new areas you can explore, tougher trainers (that give xp) and maybe some gym leader rematches or a super boss. Thats why. Fuck.

They don't show up one route after the other though. They show up every other town and don't take up your time as much as Hau does. Also you're forgetting that while there were two rivals interrupting you in BW, you got like four people showing up to bother you all the time in USUM.

The reaaon scenes in general take longer in Gen VII and will take longer in the future is because they have camera angles, expressions/emotes and are paced as scenes by the game itself. In the previous games it was only dialogue boxes paced by your osn reading speed.
I can accept the complaint the scenes are poorly executed or paced, but "taking too much time" is due to it being a 3D game now.

While I agree Pokémon woyld be better off if it had stayed sprite-based (as GF clesrly doesn't know how to make good 3D scenes and maps), I imagine you can see why this isn't a popular opinion.

I disagree. I think that having the "rivals" who are just friends this point, show up in every single route you go to or even travel with you, like they do in SM, really kills the sense of adventure. Most of the time they add nothing to the story, like Hau telling you he's going to eat and then fucking off.

Not cutscene heavy but the amount of dialogue and interruptions has been rising since Gen IV, and high since V. It's more noticeable now because they are actual cutscenes, they break game flow. I do agree it is a problem with the current games because gamefreak has no idea of how to make cutscenes that keep the illusion of flow intact.
