As someone who works in localization, I don't see how this could happen, at all.
Unless they have the weirdest system, you translate string-by-string. So you wouldn't put a placeholder there, especially because it's not a long sentence or anything.
It's just that the Japanese cry was changed, and so they had to change it to something similiar. I am sure the Japanese cry is similiar to "Sound".
