I think they'll be brought back quicker than new megas will (they said they wanted to give something ALL 'mons would be able to use) and seeing how they still have mega stones available, can't see them scrapping them outright. They probably will go to the back burner in favour of whatever Gen VIII's gimick is though.

Z Moves were always a marketing gimmick made back during the extreme popularity of Yokai Watch as a means to try and ape one of their design elements.

As Yokai Watch has heavily waned in terms of popularity because 5 has not quality control and milks things to death, there's not point in keeping the feature. At most the Pokemon with Unique Z-Moves will be allowed to keep them. The non-unique ones will fade into obscurity
