Yellow was cool at the time because you could get all three Kanto starters, updated sprites that made use of the Gameboy color, and you battled Jessie and James three times. They also added a surfing Pikachu minigame, but I guess it's impossible to access that in the 3DS version because you can't connect it to Pokemon Stadium.

that was the first 3rd version, and it wasn't even that, it was more of special edition, it wasn't meant to replace red and blue.

It didn't set the precedent for what a second mainline game in a region should be in terms of content like new facilites, story, tutors etc. like bw2, platinum and emerald. comparing yellow to usum is not a good argument.

but I understand your point. platinum and emerald added about the same amount of story as usum, and the postgame wasnt as great as everyone makes it out to be, the extensive battle facilities are the only thing usum lacks, but it still has extra post game missions and and stuff. I am however disappointed about the lack of a looker quest
