I've noticed that at least 60% of threads on /vp/ are about people trashing USUM. I'm not here to praise Game Freak nor am I am here to necessarily condemn the critics. Nonetheless, I feel the need to address the critics specifically. Disclaimer: Blog post below
Like most of you, I've played Pokemon since the RBY days and I've purchased every single mainline title that Game Freak released. Over the years, I slowly became disillusioned with the newer Pokemon games because I was unhappy or outright frustrated with some of the decisions that Game Freak made and the direction that followed for modern titles. Like many of the critics, I made threads ranting about Game Freak's incompetence and used every opportunity to communicate my disatisfaction with the state of the franchise. I did some introspection and discovered that the cause of my bitterness was because I didn't want my childhood passion to die. Pokemon had always conjured feelings of childhood wonder and awe and I didn't want it to stop.
I had to admit to myself that I had outgrown the series and that it was time to move on. This is the case with most critics. Some of you must realise that Pokemon is inherently a children's franchise despite what Game Freak says about appealing to all ages. Game Freak will always sell millions of copies of Pokemon games so they have no reason to listen to fan input or even put in effort into their games. Every mainline Pokemon game that they release is guaranteed to be a success. Even then, they primarily listen to the Japanese audience so your grievences will never be heard.
After Pokemon Sun/Moon I gave up on the franchise but instead of complaining I developed an interest in other JRPGs and moved to /v/. It was a difficult decision but I have no regrets and I felt happier in the end. Tl;dr it's pointless to waste time complaining about Game Freak. You may as well just abandon the franchise instead of shitting up the board for those who still love the Pokemon franchise.
