Goodra is gone for good and there is no chance for Greninja to return.

Even one time rivals from Kanto and Jotho were more interesting then XY rivals.

Please tell me you're kidding. Bonnie's personality was better than most of the main girls and she was funny and entertaining, and then had a nice Squishy plot. Clemont had a great character and learned from Ash and otherwise functioned as the support character. How the hell could you not like Bonnie/Clemont or say they're boring?

XY wasn't focused much on humor, but there were some funny moments.

Types don't matter, Ash had 3 ground pokemon in DP. Goodra is not released, he brought it back twice and it can be called upon like he did with Charizard and Squirtle.

And it's of course very likely for Greninja to return. It was his most popular pokemon in years, it's the Charizard for today's kids.

Shota was a nice idea for a rival who looked up to Ash, and their battle was great. Ash/Alan was good too up until he lost.

It even get worst when Ash put his entire body on the Line only to lose to a mega charizard all because Yajima was a too chicken to let his Alain lose.

Clemont's gimmick got old by the first gym. He had nothing going for him outside his gym arc. How the fuck was a rival whose battles had literally no weight or tension a "nice idea?" Or a rival whose story played no part in their rivalry, and really wasn't a rival at all but a cockblock like Tobias presented as a rival.

At the end, OLM's obsessive love toward Alain ruined the entire series.
Worst part is, the studio still can not acknowledge it! They rather live in the delusion that everyone loves Alain and amourshipping can fix everything.
They are less focus on S/M series and more focused on avoiding any potential rematch where their Alain loses.
That pretty much explain why Gundam made the right decision to fire OLM and hire Sunrise to produce Gundam Build fighter.
Because OLM run by an worthless pig who willing to destroy any franchise to do whatever he wants.

We constantly saw signs of Clemont learning to be more self-sufficient like Ash and making nerdy comments/motions, he had fun interactions with his sister and otherwise functioned in the same support role all the male companion.

As for the rivals? Shota was something we never had before, a rival who looked up to Ash like he was an apprentice. And their final battle in the league was great so what difference does it make? As for Alan, had Ash had beaten him nobody would have cared and would have said Alan was the best rival since Paul, which is what people considered him till the loss.

Serena sucks as a character, She had nothing Special except her crush on Ash.

Alain was freaking pig who receive favoritism from Yajima for being his favourite lovechild.
To the point that Yajima punish Ash for the mistake that Alain made.

Shota is just over glorified Rookie! Its even sadder that we have to wait 3 year for the league so Ash could beat Shota again.

There were nothing realistic about XY Ash, he was just competent.
XY Ash was more like a generic cliche Harem anime protagonist from VN.

How can I take you seriously when you say stuff like this? What the hell made them, "annoying?" Bonnie's personality was one of the best and most entertaining personalities for a main girl in the series, she was constantly sweet, funny and had some great character moments. Then the Squishy bonding gave her the best character arc in the series.

Clemont was also entertaining and likeable, and while he did suffer from "Brock syndrome" as a background character at times, he had a lot of good episodes and moments to make up for it.

Alain is not rival. Even if he's a rival, then he's a complete garbage, even worse than Trip.

Ash felt unatural and boring. He was only about battles only, no fun and eg. He felt like a robot. DP on the other hand was capable of both Battles and Fun. He's a Kodomo protagonist after all. He should have fun.

Clemont had the same amount of episodes as any male companion. He got episodes about his pokemon, episodes about his fear of talking to girls (that princess ep in early XY, then the one with the Buneary girl later on), eps in the Gym, eps where he showed how confident he was with Ash...and then just brotherly moments with Bonnie.

With Alan I never said it was supposed to be like Paul's, just that Ash had this strong competent trainer who had powerful pokemon and then doubled as an almost anti-hero in the Flare arc.

As I said before, Clemont got his roles and focus in the XY finale. Of course he didn't get a ton of screentime, no male companion does.

Serena got development where she learned to break out of her shell, stood up against her mother, and so forth. Now I'm not going to say her development was as good as past girls like May, Dawn, etc....but to say she didn't develop at all is wrong.

Alan as a character and rival was completely fine. I didn't know there was a "rule" of what a rival had to be. The fact that the hate for Alan didn't start till he beat Ash in the league, and prior to that people were completely fine with him says a lot.

XY Ash was a natural successor to DP Ash. He felt matured as he should be. DP Ash was good but seeing it again, when even then it was just a slightly mature version of AG Ash, would have been same old.

Clemont looks like a dumpy janitor and Bonnie's hair is fucking horrific. Those stupid circles in the front. If it's supposed to be a braid, it's too stylist, the clasp is just another circle, her pig tail is too long. It would have been much better if her pig tail was bushier, the clasp was a triangle or flower or ANYTHING other than just a flat circle, the braid needs to be more braid like, if only just a small set of "v"s along the inside, and the fact that it just STOPS at a random spot on her temple is the worst. Her whole fucking head is lopsided and it drives me CRAZY. Her outfit would be fine, except brown and yellow dominating colors? What the fuck were they thinking?

WTF is going on in this thread? XY was a great series, but it had flaws like any saga did.

You can say the same about DP. Brock was awful, some of Dawn's rivals like Kenny were shit, the pacing was off at times and Piplup got a bit too much later on.

Every saga has flaws, that doesn't mean you have to shit all over it.

XY has nothing good expect competent Ash.
The group chemistry was boring, Characters were Blend , Too many humorless filler, Forced shipping, over glorification of undeserving pig and worst Pokemon team Ash ever had.

Only reason anyone would like XY series was due to Ash's chance of winning a league but writer blow it for their Alain and now we are stuck on a worthless region with no league ,no competition, no goal .

character devlopment arc my ass, Serena just had a cliche story about cutting her hair which has been done in various other anime.
Furthermore, Pokemon showcase was less of a competition and more of a fanservice of boys where Serena and other girls put make-up and wear risque clothes to dance around for 20 minute.

Misty had her character arc in Whirl Cup, She also won a fishing contest and develop a close bond with a girl named Sakura.
There was also various other episode focusing on Misty and Brock in the series.

Johto was far better then XY series! Its only flaw was that it was long and had a lot of filler.

Misty barely had a personality in Johto and it was the whole reason she was so poorly received 15 years ago and why May quickly became so much more popular than her as her replacement. While Misty did have a few good Johto episodes as you've mentioned, it was too few and far inbetween. Besides that she was a glorified Togepi holder in the background.

The original trio was viewed as a failure during Johto. It was a step down from Kanto in every way.

Johto's Gyms were just OK. The best ones were the two Charizard was in, but the others were either just average or nothing special. The animation in Johto was pretty bland so the battles didn't stand out much.

However, May has no special episode and she only appeared for only one arc.

But Johto is one of the weakest arcs of the series. It had some good episodes but there were still too many bad or boring episodes. Ash's Johto team was handled poorly, Misty was handled poorly, and there just wasn't enough new arcs or characters to help it.

Prior to BW or SM, Johto was considered the worst saga of the anime for a decade. The only reason it isn't anymore is because now BW and SM exist.

I watched XY series so I know how much Serena truly sucked.
Her entire decision of becoming pokemon performer was so unrealistic and forced that writers had to go cliche root of " Cutting hair to change" in order to make her look serious.

Her interaction with Ash was even worst!
She acted less like his childhood friend and more like some crazy fangirl that worships him.
Even Dawn had closer bond with Ash despite not being Ash's childhood friend.

Her development wasn't nearly as interesting as May or anyone for that matter.
In fact her development were rushed, forced and uninteresting .
Her being soft-spoken and reserved doesn't make up for her flaw as a blend and plain character.

Serena are just enjoyable to some desperate shipper who just wanted any cute girl with one-side crush on Ash even if she suck as a character.

Bonnie wasn't annoying in the slightest. Her personality was written like any main girl, that's why she was so well liked. She was funny, entertaining, had many good moments even prior to her Squishy plot. Bonnie had many adorable and funny moments. She was the highlight of the series and the writers wrote her with the same personality as a female lead rather than a little kid character so she didn't feel irrelevant or minor like Max did.

Are you being serious? Bonnie was one of the best and most entertaining characters we've had, just because she's another little kid doesn't make her anything like Max.

The Flare arc was great but Bonnie's/Squishy's part in the climax was the best part of it. Bonnie singing to Squishy and them working together and defeating the main villain was excellent. I can't believe people are shitting on one of the best written arcs the anime has done.

Were you not in the fandom when DP was airing? Most people felt Brock became completely dead weight at that point, and this is on top of the fact we sat through him for all of AG and Johto before that making him even more redundant due to being there so long.

Dawn and Brock barely had any meaningful interaction and he just felt like a third wheel while Ash and Dawn interacted. You could chop Brock out of DP and 90% of the episodes would have played out almost exactly the same.

LOL, this poll is full of shit. Half the people there think Serena or Lillie are the most popular female companions of the anime aside from the nostalgia crowd for Misty. When in reality May has the largest fanbase dating back over 15 years and Dawn is incredibly popular as well.

There are people there who even say they never knew May was popular, despite the fact that she's the most watched/viewed female companion of the series after Misty.

Even counting online viewership, the anime is nowhere as watched now as it was 15 years ago back when AG was airing. These younger fans honestly think characters only around for a few years compare to the millions of viewers the older females companions have.

Talonflame is one of Ash's strongest birds, Hawulcha is a great battler on the same level of Buizel or Corphish or any mid-tier, and Goodra is a great battler that got the short end of the stick in the league. Noviern is the only one who lacks battle experience but at least tied with a Salamence.

Goodra did not get released, Ash brought it back and used it again in the league. He can get it transfered over to whereever he goes. It's like how he used Charizard and Squirtle again when they weren't at Oak's lab.

Hawlucha is definitely a strong capable battler, did you even watch the show? It's about the same as Corphish and Buizel as a mid-tier battler.

This is just pathetic. His XY team IS his strongest regional team. There's no debate. All of his pokemom fought stronger pokemon than previous teams. It's not even close. Pikachu took down two pseudos in one battle. Ash-greninja is Ash's strongest pokemon to date. Goodra was a literal tank and powerhouse in every battle and only lost in the league because extreme type disadvantage and a spamable OHKO move. Talonflame fought two legendary birbs and battled in 9 fucking gym matches. Hawlucha is easily corpish and buizel level. It fought much stronger opponents than corpish or buizel ever did. Noivern had the least experience but yet was able to hold its ground to a Zapdos and slam it into a stone pillar and also tie with a pseudo. It only lost in the league because of extreme type disadvantage.

The XY team is his strongest regional team, all the pokemon were stronger than his average pokemon and if you're butthurt about it at least try to hide it.

Ash's XY team is by far the most unbalance team Ash ever had with three flying type and two dragon type.
Not to mention that he couldn;t able to keep two of them.
Ash's Sinnoh team, Hoenn team and Orange Island team were still far better then Ash's XY team.
Swallow and Staraptor were far stronger then Talonflame and Hawlucha, Blaze Infernape haven't been beaten yet, Glalie and Snorlax has far better win ratio then Goodra.

XY team doesn't even come close to Ash's strongest regional team, the whole team was nothing more then a rushed mess.
