>>34112596I can't believe there are actually people making this argument unironically.
By saying that something is a "social construct" you invalidate it.
If you then begin to use it as a form of identity, then you invalidate your identity.
If you view "gender" as anything other than sex then it doesn't exist. There are stereotypes around the two sexes, some based in truths others in falsehoods.
There is no difference between a man taking hormones and wearing a dress and a "trans woman." Because "gender" doesn't exist, sex is the only constant.
If someone feels like "the opposing gender" it's due to conflicts in how they act and sex stereotypes, i.e. wanting to wear a dress despite being a man. This does not make someone a woman, all it does is enforce stereotypes about the two sexes.
There are two different types of transgender people, too. The former do it because of confusion due to the idea that gender is a tangible thing seperate from sex that is malleable, which it's not.
The second are a group of people suffering from a mental illness that causes them to want to cause bodily harm to parts of their bodies.
Because the latter found a group in the former, they believe they are different than people with other similar mental health issues, being other forms of body dysmorphia.
This cultural force of self-reinforcement has even created a group of people calling themselves "trans-abled". These people believe that they should not be capable of the same things as other people ir that certain parts of their bodies are not their own.
the second group of trans folk are just as valid as allowing the "trans-abled" to self-handicap.
So, to sum it up:
>Gender is not distinct from sex>if one seperates the two you are actually talking about various sex stereotypes and not about a nebulous concept called "gender">self-mutilation, in any form, should not be allowed, and the individuals suffering from these diseases should seek rehabilitation.
