Is there any way that you could design the first starter battle with your rival in a way that would make you lose, using just Tackle, Growl or Tail Whip?

Yeah, it's called allow it to set up and then keep it tackling the player. Some of the games got pretty close with this. Good example is Platinum, people have actually lost to that fight one to many times.

Losing to Blue in Yellow at the start can easily happen since Eevee is faster then Pikachu and hits a bit harder.
