>>34113139>>34113169Being in the wrong series does make him poorly written.
And his ultimate goal, "Beauty through genocide", still doesn't make sense when the topic is about resource shortages and unequal distribution. Wiping out most of the population won't fix the inherent problems present in those topics, it'll just eliminate them- until the population grows large enough again, and the whole thing repeats. Lysandre's solution was never a solution at all as it never seeks to fix the actual issues, it was just the deranged action of a very twisted worldview.
And let's not forget about what Lysandre claims pushed him towards the weapon in the first place, which are apparently selfish and indulgent people taking his goodwill for granted without a care for others.
Then you meet Team Flare, and most every member of that band of idiots fits that description to a T. In fact, they're the only people in the entire games who do. They were also Lysandre's chosen ones to survive in the "beautiful" world alongside him.
This gives the impression that Lysandre is either willingly blind to go through with his plan, which clashes with him being presented as being sensitive to these kinds of things, severely disturbed and unable to actually comprehend his own reasons for murder, or completely bullshitting.
This is all made worse by the fact that the games prop him up like some tragic villain with the right intentions but the wrong execution. If he was presented to be as crazy as he actually is, his character -and maybe the story- wouldn't be so much of a mess.
