>>34116085>how do you guys know which Pokemon are gonna be good before the game even comes out?Game leaks ahead of schedule. People datamine the stats and movelists of the new Pokémon. We work it out from there.
>are there any new features to the games that are game-changing?Gen V introduced (although implemented poorly) Hidden Abilities, which are a third ability for each Pokémon that's more difficult to get on that Pokémon than its normal ones.
Gen VI gave us Mega Pokémon - a temporary battle-exclusive transformation that can be performed once per battle by certain Pokémon if that Pokémon is holding its corresponding Mega Stone. Megas tend to have new types and abilities and a large boost to their stats.
Gen VII brought us Z-moves. Give a Pokémon a Z-Stone and once per battle it can use a special ultra powerful attack, or enhance one of its normal attacks with various additional effects.
They're the main big things in any case.
>Or is it still more or less the same format as the other gamesI mean it's still travel the world > catch Pokémon > do gyms > reach the Elite Four > win at life. Gen VII replaced gyms with Island Trials where you perform various different tasks in addition to battling, but it's still mostly the same deal.
>Seems like 3DS is pretty controversial..It's really not. /vp/ is just the breeding ground for the vocal minority. The main issue with the 3DS era is that we've become used to a wealth of post-game activities, and the 3DS games have been a little drier in that respect.
