Judging by the quality of gen 7 it was just filler and tech demo anayway
I'm pretty sure they will put the same engine on the switch with the same models but with higher resolution and textures. Since the Walking models went unused in USM except for NPCs there is no doubt they are for the switch. I think Game Freak startet to work on the Switch game in 2015 during the break year with no game. No other way they can release the game so fast. X Y and was in development for 3 years too while they atill released BW and BW2

It's happened before, with B2W2, XY and ORAS. But yes, they're rushing the games to meet deadlines (20th anniversary, then finish seventh gen fast enough to precede the deadline for the Switch game, etc).

We'll probably get a breather once Switch Pokemon is out, but Nintendo want that released ASAP. Financial reports suggest Bandai is also expecting the new game to be released at end of 2018, so unless Gamefreak is lying to absolutely everyone it is actually on track for christmas that year.

Sun and moon. Don't kid yourself. Ohmori directed oras in 2014 than did sun and moon in 2016. X and y was just longer because they made 800 3d future proof Pokemon models

Also this is gamefreak first console pokemom games. So should take longer

this is incompetence at is finest, SMT was at its 25th annyversary and we got just the launch trailer of the developing game Which it will take them forever to do and I'm glad, they could have done some homage to the 20th and promised us a good title but nope lazyness comes first.

This is honestly the best case scenario. If Gen VII was just filler/tech demo while they were working on the big Switch project, that would be better than Gen 8 being garbage. But I kinda doubt it, given their job listings they put up in spring of this year.
