Is Insurgence a good fan made game to start on?

I've never played a fan made/hacked pokemon game but I want to try one soon. Is this a bad idea

Vega comes to mind. Gen 3 hacks with future gen additions and really good fakemons. Really difficult though.

It has to be satire. They give you the option to kill trainers, have Bringing me to Life as the battle theme, and one of the town themes is The Sound of Silence. Not to mention your brother renames himself Hate after the main character dies.
