Man, that whole situation is so depressing. You could tell that the devs were pouring their hearts out into those games and stuffing them with content, only for the higher-ups to basically abort the franchise like 3 years in to focus on some weird Adventure Time-looking shit. If they’d tried to nurture it to its full potential, not only could the YW games continue to improve, but Game Freak would have some competition to keep them from getting complacent and lazy.

Reminds me of Monster Hunter in a way. The newest entry in the west (MHX/Generations) got it’s updated version in Japan (MHXX) which is the exact same game but with G-rank (higher leveled quests of the game) and DLC quests. And with full price too.
