>>34134871Is not as simple as people think. Third versions being sold separately guarantees that they can alter the base game as much as they without worrying of erasing the original games. If USUM was a DLC, it would have been a expensive one due to file size and all the additions and people would be forced to buy it to continue using online and pokebank. Otherwise their SM would be as good as paperweight. People complain they have to buy the game anew but the vast majority don't buy third versions/sequels and they are content with being able to fight and trade with USUM players.
Switch giving up the format is likely because programing is harder and more expensive, Switch carts are a lot more expensive too. And I believe the eshop allows bigger filesizes. However the content we may get as DLC could potetially be inferior to what we curretly get because they wouldnt be able to change the main campain a lot. On the bright side they now have no reason to remove features.
