It's a good feature in that it does what it's supposed to do well and has a lot of effort put into it, but the issue here is not what it is but what the rest of the game ISN'T.
If the rest of the game was fully featured, expanded on Alola greatly, and delivered well executed content like people wanted, no one would be complaining about the Photo Club just as barely anyone complained about the Pokestar Studios, as the rest of those games had so much to offer.
It's the bizarre disparity between how much effort went into this feature and the actual game that are getting people angry, not the feature itself.
