>>34138648The games are terrible though, it's undeniable. If you evaluate them, in an objective way, by comparing them with other modern games, and even games of past generations, then they are without question, low-tier games.
You can also add in other factors, such as the potential budget that a Pokemon game could and should receive, based upon the financial earnings of the franchise as a whole, which is currently the #1 media franchise in the world.
It's even bigger than Star Wars, yet if you compare USUM to a recent Star Wars game, namely Star Wars: Battlefront, and remember to keep into consideration the fact that Pokemon is predominantly a franchise built around the games, and Star Wars is a franchise predominantly built around the Star Wars movies, then the difference in production values is staggering.
Not to say that Battlefront is a great game, and obviously it's on much more powerful systems, but if you compare the budget and polish of both games, it's staggeringly glaring how little effort and/or money is put into the Pokemon series.
Also if you're going to say this comparison is unfair, then compare USUM to another 3DS title, Xenoblade Chronicles. Again, the difference in production values is staggeringly obvious.
Pokemon is a turn-based RPG, which by modern standards is an outdated, and relatively simple form of interactive medium. Gamefreak are literally able to copy and paste the code necessary for the battle system, from one game to the other. Again, with this considered, it's glaringly obvious to anyone with even the most basic idea of game design, how relatively simple the Pokemon games are to produce. And yet what have they been doing with the games lately? Cutting content, removing features, releasing shorter and more simplified games.
Even the Pokemon added this generation was considerable less than previous versions.
So all in all, yes, the games are awful, and they deserve a high level of criticism. Your ignorance is the problem.
