And I did mention Platinum having better team compositions than D/P. USUM does the same thing, but not as well as Platinum.
But despite that, I still think USUM provides more new "gameplay changing" elements because the story is more different than Platinum's was to Diamond and Pearl, the post-game has a story element, there are two mini games, and it fixed more flaws from the original games than platinum did. Platinum is still slow, still requires a shitton of HM's, still has a great rival and a nonexistent "friendship matters" rival, and still has the same order of gyms. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon's changes may not feel as satisfying because sun and moon got some simple things wrong and it's an alternate version of that, but at least it shortened cutscene time, fixed unnecessarily late-game evolutions, and changed up some of the trial Pokemon for a slightly different experience.
