something newfags don't even remember, but Gen5 was advertised by nintendo as the first pokemon sequel to feature 150 original pokemon from start to end of the E4, his legit made /v/ burst into flames, specially because back then nintendo barely teased new pokemon, we only knew of very few like the starters, zoroark or the pigeon.
when leaks happened, /v/ was bombarded by 40% pokemon threads, all speculating the planned teams, mons like scolipede, braviary, volcarona, serperior croocodile. hydreigon and chandelure frequently posted, and many memes where born like SMUGLEAF, BACON and the otter no one liked.
the hype was so huge that /vp/ was made as a contaiment board and by demand of /v/ people who didn't like pokemon, hence why /v/ (but not the actual pokemon fans of that time) hated gen 5, and relied heavily on mons like vanilluxe or klinklang to bash the series out of so many threads of pokemon back then. (/v/ hates anything that gets too popular or discussed).
I think the only common aggreement on dissapointment was that emboar turned out to be a fighting/fire, no one could defend that abortion.
