So are humans and Pokemon the same? Why are Pokemon called Pokemon as a collective when they're all obviously different?

According to the myths in DPPt, not anymore. But they share a common ancestor with Pokemon so they’re obviously not like real world humans.

Yes. And a myth isn't literally saying that there's no connection anymore. You can assume the evolutionary divergence that happened is more or less similar to humans and the animals we see wild, raise for food, raise as pets, and so on.

So if there's a word, Pokemon, it's a catch-all for the creatures that are not the human species.
