I haven't gone anywhere near Digimon since the first season of the anime, and even then I only watched the first 16-20 or so episodes. I hear the games these days are actually pretty good, but I don't know shit about the franchise for the most part other than the very basic premise.

If any Digimon fans here on /vp/ were to suggest a game for an extremely out-of-touch anon like myself to perhaps get back into the franchise with, which one would it be and why?

I'm worried that if I just up and buy the latest one there'll be a load of lore and mechanics that go completely over my head. I'm kinda' hoping that Digimon is still vaguely similar to how I remember it being back in 1999-2000.
