The difficulty is great, no joke the hardest mainline game so far even considering Hard B2W2, many trainers, the bosses and the totems have minmaxed EV spreads with perfect IVs and good movepools. The game was also balanced around Exp Share so you only end slightly overleveled. I didn't use mine and I ended fighting Lusamine with a team six levels below hers. The totems were revamped and are even more dangerous with their supports also so they come as a really good challenge.
But other than the difficulty, the game is slightly the same. Ultra Recon Squad was shoved in and their fights are pathetic, Usamine becomes Zinnia 2.0 since apparently she was in the right now and everyone forgives her, forgetting her collection of frozen Pokemon and how horrible of a mother she was. No new Alolamons, no new clothes to buy and those areas you thought were cut? They're still cut, so I hope you weren't expecting that Pokejurassic Park. And I hope you enjoy Rotomdex because he won't shut up ever again.
Only worth buying if you didn't play SM, otherwise pirate. It is a fun game but it disappoints in so many ways the originals didn't.
