I'm restarting Heart Gold later on, should I use a starter or something else? A Pidgey? Also any nicknames for the starters would be great.

How would you feel about a Hoothoot as a starter? Then again I'm sort of biased since it's one of my favorite flying lines.

Then go for it! Noctowl can get a bit beefy too, and having some psychic moves on a normal/flying for Morty can be good. He'll be your lil buddy!

Use Togepi as your "starter". IIRC you can get it pretty early in the game
