Yeah I wish they went back to the style of Kanto, Sinnoh and Johto where the game opened up in the middle and let you go anywhere you liked for a while

I've been seeing that kinda response a lot here lately. Every time someone points out a flaw with the recent games, at least one of the responses is "I-it was just like that in the previous games too!" even for things that clearly weren't an issue in older titles.

Its not a flaw S/M took a more story centric approach, its ok to dislike this but I think it made the games better and gave a reason for the single player

I agree.
There's no point to catching, training, trading, battling and going on adventures through the world with your Pokemon, that "core of the franchise" bullshit is irrelevant, we need to turn the entire thing into an interactive movie to give a "reason" for the video game to exist.

I myself haven't played Pokemon before Sun/Moon because now I finally have a reason to care about these characters and to give personality to the hentai I fap to.

Also, I was on Akala Island. Between the Ultra Recon Squad and Colress interrupting you for no reason, there's like 1 trainer. Then between that and Hau wasting your time with Festival Plaza, there are only like 4 trainers.

Why is this allowed? Just make a bigger reason for fucks sake.

Don't forget how every NPC trainer except optional veteran/ace battles only have a single Pokemon and it's not even higher leveled than the wild Pokemon in the area.

It's weird because the totem fights are genuinely pretty good, and the game gets really hard at times (weird spikes though), the balance is out of whack, and it seems like they don't want to do anything that might delay you from following the straight line until the next cutscene they are so proud to shove in your face in every detail they can.

Rby:Seafoam,Power plant and the route you didn't choose to go Fuchsia are optional
Gsc:Dark cave,Union cave deeps,Ruins of alph,Mt.Mortar and Whirl islands(Gsc) are optional
Rse:Mt.Pyre inside,Meteor falls top,The dessert,Sea mauville,Safari zone,Shoal cave and the route south of mt.Pyre are optional
Gen4,5,6 didn't play them since a long while so I can't tell
SM:The dessert,Haehae cementery,The geothermal plant ,The route south of electric trial and That cave on Melemele are optional

Pokemon always had some exploration and honestly SM did lack on it but they still have it

Sinnoh had Fuego Ironworks and that cave where you catch Gible among other places
Unova had plenty but I haven't played through B2W2 entirely
Kalos had Pokemon Village and one or two islands up north
