>Lusamine in SM
>Crazy bitch obsessed with UBs who turns crazier after getting high on Nihilego
>Builds up well to the battle
>You beat the shit out of her
>Epilogue explains more about her story and what will happen to her in the future, end

>Lusamine in USUM
>Downplays the craziness despite including scenes like the one where she still keeps a bunch of frozen / dead Pokemon in Aether
>Is basically irrelevant after the Aether foundation part of the game
>Poor buildup to Necrozma, never actually shows up during the game before the fused legendary fight, URS do fuckall and only drop vague lines related to him a few times throughout the story
>Necrozma, while a fun fight, feels disconnected from the previous story events and feels like a lazy cut-and-paste job where they just replaced one major fight scenario for another
>After you beat him you just move on with the game until you find it again in victory road so you can capture it

I think the poorly handled antagonists are the worst part about USUM. Lusamine in SM works well because her boss fight exists as payoff to the adequate buildup. USUM goes halfway with her character and then tosses it all away without any sort of main story battle, making the buildup they decided to keep pointless and awkward in retrospect. This might be okay if Necrozma was actually fleshed out to fit the main antagonist role, but it isn't.
