Spiky Shield isn't even THAT good. It's only marginally better than Protect.

Now Baneful Bunker, THAT would be cancer on Ferrothorn.

Not him but I think you have it backwards.

Also Protect is one of the less good move slots to use on Ferrothorn. You're much better off going Spikes/Stealth Rock, Leech Seed, Power Whip, Gyro Ball/Knock Off. He really doesn't have room for Protect.

I'd argue Power Whip is kind of extraneous on Ferrothorn. It's primarily a defensive pokemon and even if it does need to attack, Gyro Ball will usually be dealing max damage so the main reason you'd be running Power Whip is for Grass STAB, which isn't even that great of an offensive type.

Protect is used to abuse Leech Seed and Leftovers, to scout for potential coverage moves such as random HP Fire and to waste the opponent's Z-move. It's more useful than you give it credit for.

Ferro usually doesn't run Toxic because Leech Seed and Protect are enough to stall out most things. Usually it runs hazards instead.

Spikes is basically mandatory to ferro at this point anon, it's usually Spikes + Leech Seed + Either 2 attacks or 1 attack with Protect or T-wave
