OP how do you think people become rich in the first place? They don't waste their money on garbage and plan according to a budget. If my budget for games is $100 a month for example, why would I waste almost half of the budget on the same game I already own but with very few new features? Give me a good reason why I should put that towards my 401k or towards an investment that compounds annually instead?

I have the money but don't want to support a shitty business practice

Even if the game was free the thought of watching all of those cutscenes again just to get to the new features sounds painful

Christmas is coming up and a lot of people will be getting Switches/PS4 pros/Xbox one Xs, it was stupid of gamefreak not to try and be competitive. I'll be buying enough PS4 games I won't have time to play the same game again much less want to pay 40 dollars to do it

If USUM were free to download or $20 bucks instead, most people would buy it and less people would be pissed. Not because they can't afford $40 dollars but because they don't value what we've gotten to be $40.
I could buy shitty headphones for $200 bucks right now and afford it easy, or I could buy something better, or not buy them at all. Most people don't want to waste money.
Some people value USUM to be worth $40. I don't see how but these same people probably bought Emerald and Platinum, too.

I buy all the third versions because I like being able to play through the main game again without having to start a new game on my previous version and losing all of my pokemon. On the second run I'll often set myself a challenge such as nuzlocke, no evolution, monotype etc to keep things interesting, and whatever minor changes the games have in the story come as nice little extras to me.

I'll stop buying them the moment the new games start offering multiple save files, however.

I play on Showdown exclusively by the official Smogon rules, and even then Showdown has a better game experience and postgame than USUM.
For example USUM doesn't have Mafia or creative ideas like Roleplaying :3c or silly innovative room commands, also Smogon allows everyone to become a champion and important user, not just actual competent players like those VGC*nts, I've seen 14yo leading tiers and even being elite Smogon users with mod powers, I've seen minoriiea such as women, LGBT, traps and pedo-positive with ambitions living theor dreams thanks to Pokemon Smogon version. There is no reason to keep buying USUM, I'm having fun on Showdown and it's free and hella epic!

It is LITERALLY SM with some new stuff tacked on to the end. Like, I'm not even trying to joke here, all the new models, text and so on really ARE just added on to the end of the SM data. They stuck a bunch of bells and whistles on it, and some of those whistles are really nice, but it's still just SM. It's a glorified romhack sold for $40.

A third version with minimal new content just doesn't fly anymore. They set the bar higher with B2/W2 and then failed to live up to it. And let's be real here - they had an entire year and gave us a story that's maybe 10% different, and a few other meaningless bits and pieces. It IS lazy.
