I love Squirtle line but they there are much better water pokemon in Kanto.

yea but you get water pokemon so late. I mean whats the earliest water pokemon you can get, besides the magikarp the guy sells you.

You don't need water until HM Surf and by that time you get a Free Lapras besides many wild options.
