Rematch Red in gold/silver is a good postgame content because you cant fly there and you have to rematch the Elite 4 before you can see him again
The battle zone in DPP was a good postgame content.
It's not about 1 hour of extra scenario like rainbow rocket, it's about something you can redo when you come back to the game every day which could be challenging. Because going back to the first roads with lvl 2 and 3 wild pokemons is boring, you need a zone where there is high lvl pokemon to keep fighting and progressing.
But game freak wouldn't need to actually make new zones, for postgame, just lvl up wild pokemons after Elite 4, rematch every trainers with much higher level, it's not that difficult, just to give you the appeal to go around Alola again
Yet they never did that
