This and battling will always be the focus of every gen before anything else. The reason the 3ds era has been so successful is how much more people like the 3D models. It's a massive thing especially for kids nowadays

Personally, I think that pokémon, level design and history should be indispensable for a good pokémon game.

Gen 7 is bullshit because it has failed miserably in all of the above.

If there's one thing I want for Pokemon on Switch, it's to have well-designed maps with some vertical parts as well and bosses for each major "dungeon" (like Totem Pokemon.)

Kalos was underwhelming but not unsalvageable like Alola. At least there were still places like Frost Cavern, Winding Woods, Terminus Cave, a proper Victory Road and evil team hideouts. Reflection Cave had a neat gimmick.

GSC got it right, the puzzles are to do with movement, and continue exploration.

meteor falls has GOAT atmosphere, and provides variety without forcing an action

the sunken ship cabin puzzle requires you to observe and remember, but suffers the limitations of its own design

(going out of the room resets the shine cue, and the payoff is the chance to press A another time)

mt coronet rock climb is not a puzzle, just a right executable after enough play.

contrast chargestone cave, where the intuitive reaction to floating rocks yields the expected result.

RBG has nothing going for it, except that the constant interruptions urge progress once they are dealt with.

this guy gets it. that being said I really liked most of the new mon save the furshit but not even that can make SM good, I almost think the Pokémon and maps are honestly equally important—unless we go full multiplayer online with a streamlined interface with a shitload of customization options like Pokémon stadium and not 10fps lagshit, good online that you can access from a menu and not have to run around a half assed carnival. That might make me accept a shitty game like SM if it had great online play like that, but other than that.
