I still see people argue about this but as a rule of thumb, if you don't use those as separate areas you just miss out on having some neat-o options so go for it, no one's gonna hate you for it. I use them as separate places too.

Update:
Through hours of grinding everyone is caught up
It's been a rough road but we're heading up Mt Lanakila to take on Gladion (if he's still there)

Cactus, the Naganadel
and Dick Greyson, the Talonflame were enough to carry the game. Officially done with my Ultra Moon nuzlocke
Naganadel got surprisingly little time in battle during the E4/Champion but it's good that it ends here because the game just went black screen after victory

Things are finally starting to look up, boys. Do the fossils count as Route 8 when revived though? It's my last area to try to legally get Remoraid before just getting one illegally for the purposes of evolving Mantyke and nothing else. I just don't want to lose a chance at a fossil but I will prioritise evolving Mantyke if I do. God knows this team with 3 special defense reducing natured mons and two filler fodder mons needs some of that spdef.

I've used this Pokemon to death in Unova runs, but Intimidate + Baby Doll Eyes has got to count for something, as well as Z-Take Down for a nuke. He got teamed and didn't evolve until level 21 for the exp bonus when unevolved. Tempted to just go for Diglett in either the cave or Route 7, so that if it's not a shit natured one or whatever, I actually have a Rock resist, because Olivia is later on. I literally don't have a Rock resisting mon period.

Also I looked up Serebii's moveset for Totem Marowak and it's fucking wrong. It doesn't have Leer/Bone Rush/Hex/Flame Wheel, it has Detect/Hex/Brick Break/unseen fourth move. Also Salazzle is the one that does tons of damage. Poison Gas + Venoshock can be deadly, and it has Flame Burst too.

Current team is Dartrix/Herdier/A-Grimer/Charjabug/Mantyke/filler Gyarados

I hope to get a Remoraid fishing encounter on Route 8, but if not, I'll just catch an illegal one to evolve Mantyke otherwise it's not possible to evolve it and fuck that basically. I want this to actually be fun.

Thanks for the stories anon, you did very well for your first Nuzlocke. I like the personalities you gave your mons. That Houndoom is a death trap, it's honestly scarier than a Dragonite. The only reason I beat him was because I remembered to equip Ragnacroc with a Choice Scarf, and even then he took hefty damage from Dark Pulse. I hope you don't get too discouraged, you got great results.

Alright lads, I've beat Ultra Moon in a mono normal run and now I want to get absolutely destroyed in a Nuzlocke, which I know for a fact after that initial playthrough I did will not end well.
Game is fucking hard. I ain't completing this shit in a nuzlocke run, no chance.

Used an illegal Remoraid purely to evolve Mantyke, then permaboxed it never to be used again, and I can't use it anyway. In any case, fuck yeah Mantine. I'm probably the only person using it in this game and I love the hipster cred. My actual legal encounter where I got the Remoraid from was a neutral natured level 23 Wishiwashi so I now have a good Water backup at least that doesn't require that much grinding - seems fishing mons can go pretty highly levelled. I then Diglett got up to speed, too bad it's lost Metal Claw. However, it's boxed again for now because I can't risk losing it against Totem Lurantis because I NEED him for Olivia and Togedemaru, and may keep him after that if he gets that far. I need my shitty Gyarados with no moves and Bold nature, just incase I need another Intimidate user. That'll do for now.

Still doing this! The jitteryness from frame-skipping gives me a headache so I can only play in short bursts. Took on Totem Lurantis just now. Honestly I feel like the new version of the trial is a lot less fun and less memorable, and fighting a Sudowoodo with the team I have was pretty rough. Totem Lurantis itself was fine. Grimer got a toxic poison with Poison Fang on the first turn, so even though Comfey was summoned, it couldn't hold on forever, meaning I got pretty lucky. I even poisoned Comfey and used Minimize three times as well so I barely got hit. I just soloed with Grimer. Comfey may have been a better ally than Kecleon thanks to the poison's effect as it just concentrates on buffing Lurantis.

My Lush Jungle encounter was a Naughty Hoothoot. Eh.

Just got into a double battle with Anorith and Lileep, which is strange in itself because trainer rosters are randomized too. Tried to focus Anorith, found that it has Wonder Guard and hits like a truck because of stat redistribution. It's fine, I can tag out to Donphan (with Snorlax-ish stats and Softboiled, so she at least isn't dying), except I can't because Lileep has Arena Trap.

My back-up does include Latias (sold in place of Magikarp), Ho-oh and Pure Power Kyogre, but I'd rather not use them unless I have to, so now I get to choose between a Machop with about 5 base attack or a Seaking with no special attack or defense whatsoever.

Lost Slowbro against those masked Aether emplyees that you have to fight three in a row (mostly because of bad matchups), and lost my poor Crobat to a critical hit Dizzy Punch against Lusamine. Also, while I didn't lose anyone, Guzma's Vikavolt is a fucking menace.

I got lucky and caught a Dhelmise on Seafolk Village, and unboxed Floette, as I figure It might be useful against Totem Kommo-o and I assume there's still a shiny stone nearby

First problem was having a .cia/.3ds of the goddamn hack. Found it on some deep dark spanish ad-riddled download website. I KNOW how to patch a game, I do not have the patience for it. I can share if that is the game that you want.

Let me save you 2 hours of looking shit up that is outdated and just give you a surprisingly reliable video I use for reference every time I forget a step. They have a folder with the basics plus readme's in the description.

Right, so basically, grab a .3ds of the game, or convert a .cia to .3ds. Then extract the romfs and exefs, and feed those folders into pk3ds to change them, then rebuild the .3ds or .cia.
Looks like you could use a newer version of hackingtoolkit3ds (or the 9ds version) or 3dstool to do the extraction and rebuilding, as opposed to needing another program?

My plan is use Lady's Light Screen and then switching into Mimsy to hidden power rock the fuck out of it. Hard stone works if you HP is rock, right?

Aaaaaand Bathory got crit'd. Wonderful. On top of that, Deathrow for some reason continued to evolve despite me spamming the B button like no tomorrow. So I get to miss out on Aerial Ace as well. I kind of like it! It makes the game easier, but part of the appeal of the Nuzlocke is getting attached to your Pokemon, and Pokemon-Amie helps the player to do that. And if you can get fucked over by RNG, you can also be helped with RNG. Easier, yeah, but still plays into the philosophy of a Nuzlocke imo.

I did what I said I'd do, light screen and switch. Sadly it did not go like I wanted and after switching back and forth a few times, I came up with a new strat.
Mimsy had locked Totem!Araquanid into bubble. Lady's untimely death after setting up her final Light Screen followed. Then I tried HP!Rock on him as a last resort. Mimsy had 11hp left, Totem's encore had ended and I knew if I healed Mimsy it would be over. I decided to let Mimsy die to win...Mismy survived with 1 hp

If you're that unsure about taking it on or if you wipe out, I'd recommend taking Zubat out the box, throwing Soothe Bell on it and grinding till Golbat. You'll get Crobat pretty fast. And then just slap Flyinium on it and it wrecks the totem.

It would happen anytime though, so that's okay. Ledian was of great help to me in my Soul Silver nuzlocke. Ended up faiting against Karen using Light Screen to help my Dewgong (the last survivor) to win the battle. I used Speed X once and Dewgong alone made me win against Lance

You don't just get fucked by RNG. RNG also helps you normally, because sometimes the oponent can end you but choose a suboptimal move (example, Primal Groudon spamming Precipice Blades against my Solrock when Solrock is immune) and ou get crits as well.

Pokemon Amie boosts are just outright unfair on higher level, because it pretty much eliminates the tension because there's such a huge chance that you'll endure it with 1 HP

One of the best mons for Nuzlockes. Predictability when it will survive is very high, given his ability, capacity to learn fucking Cotton Guard and the STAB with Return really helps. I remember in my Y run I even pitched him against fighting pokemons to save others from my team, since the supper effectiveness is technically gone.
They are absolute beasts.

I'm currently on Ultra Megalopolis. Besides being massively disappointed that the interdimensional city that GF advertised so much is just a shitty hallway and a lift, with convenient spike bars barring me from accessing the city and that I'm guessing are not going away even after the Necrozma threat is dealt with, I'm kinda worried about Ultra Necrozma. He's a full 9 levels above me, has 754 BST, and +1 on all stats

Well this isn't a freshly started Nuzlocke but it's something? It is my first playthrough of USM tho kinda blind in what trainers have and what levels as well.
Going standard rules of 1 poke per area and dupe clause as well as shiny if I ever run into one.
I passed the first island Kahuna pretty easily even with a massive fighting weakness early on and I didn't really know the ruling with different sections in each route or area so I only caught one mon per area, if I could get some clarity on it would help a lot to get diversity started up.
I'm just at the Daycare now wish me luck for later areas.
Also sorry for my shit photo editing skills this might look like trash.

Stu was taken out early on by a crit megahorn, Abba from a crit stone edge, and Gia from giga impact. Came VERY close to wiping. Only had Honch, Empoleon, and Steelix left for Lucario. I feel I've made a bit too much progress not to update now.
Totem Marowak was pretty easy given I overestimated how strong it would be and evolved Yail in preparation. One Hydro Vortex took care of that.
I finally dropped Taela, the rare pickups weren't worth the god-awful attack stat. Vaal has nearly died so many times while training it's scary, and Axel nearly died because I forgot Salandits have dragon rage
I'm not too worried about totem Lurantis, so now I'm just working on getting everyone even with Tigress

If you're lucky (or just walk a lot), you can have Zubat become a Crobat as a low as level 23 (I actually pulled that). An early Crobat will fuck the midgame up and will solo Totem Lurantis by itself. Fomantis evolves kinda late and won't be useful until it evolves (and even when it does, it won't be that good anyway), and Pikipek is only worth it when it becomes a Toucannon. I totally recomend Toucannon, because Beak Blast is the tits, but only add it when you're high level enough to evolve it all the way

I'm expecting to lose another soon because I finally have a good team I actually like, and there's a whole Ula'ula to go before Aether. Well I had my first casualty with Friend, the Dartrix ;_;
It tanked an aurora beam from Totem Araquanid but it's helper finished him off with bubble, you will be missed borb burd.

Party updates and Progress:
Caught a lilipup on the route before the water trial and traded for a nice upgrade in Noibat, not sure if that's ok but I can always drop it if needed due to nuzlocke rulings or whatever but that and Dewpider are being put on my team replacing Dartrix and Rockruff in my party. Caught a luvdisc as well or whatever. Going on my marry way to the battle royal next after a little leveling.
Also updated some text on my layout might look better?

Well that was harrowing.
Managed to set up some X defends on Yail while tanking smackdowns from Anorith. Then after healing it was easily one-shot. Then Lileep happened. Ancient power was not fun, and I was doing chip damage. But surely I can just set up some X Sp- oh that's a crit That's a crit and I'm at 3hp and it just boosted. So Marpi comes out, one-shot cross-chops it, and now I just have to outspeed Lycanro- nope Marpi is slow as hell. But hey, it's not using its Z-move yet. But it keeps flinching me with bite. So I just decide after one heal to say fuck it and just try to fight through the flinches. Then finally, in the yellow, Marpi managed to get off an All-Out Pummeling and OHKO it.
Nobody died today. Yet.

I need help.
Whenever I start a run, I somehow lose interest and drop the locke. during the middle. So far, I have an unfinished Glazed, Prism, and Cuckold Emerald nuzlockes that I have no desire to play - let alone finish.

Any of this happen to you? How do I get over it? I thought that I might have burnt out playing Pokemon, so I've been playing other games, but now that I'm back, I spend maybe 2-3 minutes just looking at my party, my boxes, or just run around in the game just to turn it off.

Maybe I need more fun games to run? Any recommendations?

I have this issue a lot, not just with Nuzlockes but Pokémon in general. I find that I get over it if I just play a little at a time even if I'm not quite as interested as I was - just fight one trainer or do one thing - and then I slowly start to get back into it.

Pokémon is not always super thrilling or engaging and can have some pacing issues so I've found that it's best to just ease into it and then I get the fun I often have out of it as a result.

Brownie was taken out by a Critical Hit Uproar. I really liked this girl.

I defeated the Totem Togedemaru. Intimidate Stoutland plus Baby-Doll Eyes made it piss weak, then I used my Metang with Eviolite to slowly wittle it with Bulldoze and Psychic (thanks to Skarmory's Torment, and even then they did about the same amount of damage because Metang is actually quite weak, though I did get a Special Defense drop). It was excruciatingly slow and I used a few potions, but it was fine. Charjabug dealt with Skarmory fine after the totem was down, even with Stealth Rock damage.

Also Dartrix evolved. Due to the nature, his Special Attack is way higher than his attack, so I still just spam Giga Drain and occasionally the Z-move on it. Next up is Guzma, so Charjabug gets to hold the Eviolite. I'm literally passing this item around because all three of my unevolved Pokemon now need it at certain points.

You shouldn't feel like you have to grind 90% of the time. The exp should compensate. If there are balancing issues with grinding I'd love to fix that. However, Nuzlocking is obviously an added twist which might stunt that.
No new Pokémon added. I'd like to do a hack of a 3DS game in the future to really expand on the idea.

Only nitpick so far, and it really is just a nitpick, we can't name the starter we chose and just the Eevee so I have a named pokemon and an unnamed one. I don't know much about romhacking so I can't say if that's an easy fix or anything but I'd suggest at worst case scenario just putting the Name Rater in the first town or something just in case this becomes an issue.

No worries about Scald, don't really know which TM list you're pulling from or how different they are through the gens anymore offhand. As for the trade evos, that's a big draw to some that you can just catch an Abra and get an Alakazam without some kind of rigmarole.
In my Fire Red Evolution nuzlocke that I actually won, I ended up with a Rhyperior, Gengar, and Alakazam and if they had been their previous forms I would've probably lost in a lot of cases.

Entering Brawly's gym before I go deeper into the cave, gonna run Dan and Lilac as long as I can even if they get a bit above the rest

I would really appreciate that, and I just swept through Brawly. He almost killed Poochyena, Ralts, and Eevee with Dig spam but eventually died. The rest of the battle was fairly easy with Leech Seed and Mega Drain for barely surviving. Didn't expect level 20's. Gonna grind a lot harder before I continue.

Transcribing the whole thing seems tedious but that's the general idea if it helps any

as for TMs, I suggest throwing Scald in just because it's useful and popular. Also did you change Leech Life to 80bp?

Scald is a must because I put it on several late-game trainers and my mantra was "they shouldn't have what you can't have" to make it fair (barring Pokémon species... may fix that in a 386 version).

Leech Life is probably still at its old power because the moves were all added/changed by the Emerald Battle Engine Upgrade and afaik it was up to date with Gen 6. I'll have a look now!

Found myself a gamebreaker of a glitch too
North of the Electric gym there's a guy that has a Slugma, Vulpix, and Growlithe
The Growlithe used some attack that the effect said "the bursting flames hit Lilac" and the game just froze solid
>last save is before I picked my starter
Guess I'm starting all over again, you're lucky this is a cool romhack because I'm down to try again anyway

Just forced in a trainer battle with a Growlithe with Flame Burst and nothing happened, wondering if it was a one-off freeze or maybe even the move that might have come next?

Will try and get a save file close to that area so I can test further.

Currently can't add much more. Had some problems with the ROM itself because of a general bug in one of the tools I used.
Had to basically restart, but managed to make everything the same as it was, lost a save due to crashing, but now its stable and going. I'll be back to it eventually;

Also, I got a shiny. I always get one in these hacks that can't be traded back to the real games. Cool.
