Take Growlithe for example, it is clearly a dog, simplistic features and its color scheme indicates a fire typing. Now look at Arcanine: It has arbitrary tufts of hair all over its body and looks derpy in every iteration apart from a selected few 2D sprites which are passable. Also it doesn't really excel in anything battle-wise, despite being gifted with a relatively high BST and is just a mediocre allrounder at best. Even its current popularity in VGC will die down once Incineroars HA is released. All in all I can see why people like it, but I feel its mostly because it is a dog, a popular pet, and fire type, a type thats fairly popular too, also compared to Growlithe it just doesn't hold up and I wish they would have taken more time when designing Arcanine.
