In Sun i think i used Magnamite with sonic boom, fixed damage attacks make the first island incredibly easy.

If you want a Pokemon that breaks the game, but doesn't do it quite on the level of Hawlucha, get a Growlithe. Intimidate makes everything easier, especially totems.

Last time I checked it was Modest. All of Guzma's pokes have offense boosting natures (except for Thunderbug who was nerfed deliberately) and a 252 (Sp) atk/252 speed IVs.

It has very much to do with what pokemon you use. I used only Gen7 pokemon and it was hard, but making a good team with good pokemon makes a huge difference.

I have a Ribombee on my team, which I used against Hala as a Cutiefly. Almost got my shit kicked in by that Machop, luckily the rest of his team wasn't a problem.
This is the pokémon who was considered Hala's hard counter in SM mind you.

got wrecked by some girl on the beach with a level 6 yungoos, even though my nidoran was level 7 at the time. had to grind a little and came back with double-kick, but it's definitely a tad more challenging.

Pretty sure with you No EXP Share players that the important trainer fights now have 30 IVs and 252 EVs. In XY and ORAS you could've gotten away with it, but in SM and USUM the level gap is too high towards the end. Not even ROM hacks set their stats and level gap that way.

Now it's meant for easier grinding. It also helps with EV training since you can EV train multiple Pokemon at once, especially in ORAS and XY.

I mean, you can technically beat Ultra Necrozma with Focus Sash shenanigans, but you're not going to be beating that thing at no exp share levels unless you're intentionally min-maxing for it.

OP here. This was pretty close to my problem. I had Pichu in my previous run, and, moreover, I wanted Manectric. Pichu is the only counter to Popplio so early on.

My first playthrough of Moon I didn't use any healing items, didn't battle wild pokemon, and didn't use the experience share. I ended up being under-leveled the entire game, to the point that my team was about 10 levels lower than Kukui's for the final battle.

That was, by a huge margin, the hardest battle I've ever had in a pokemon game. Took me like 10-15 tries.

I also never returned to pokemon centers mid dungeon/route/trial, which combined with the lack of healing items made some sections into pretty brutal meat grinders.

I always want to do the "set" battle style, but it makes trying to level your team so annoying. Like in the standard trainer battles, it means you have to swap every single time instead of it asking for you. It just makes the battles take forever.

Cleared X but failed Moon around the end because I wasn't aware of certain type combinations and had a non-verstle team. It was fun though

No, in gen 1 you need 50 pokemon registered, in gen 2 you trade the red scale for it, in gen 3 you get it after delivering the package but it's out of the way in rustboro and not handed to you, in gen 4 you need to see 35 pokemon, etc

Basically it's becoming earlier and earlier and flat out given to you instead of being a bit hidden.
