Would've been nice of they actually ran the events. The cut Ilex forest/GS ball thing with celebi in gen 2 I get from a technical standpoint but with pokemania still being pretty much in full swing they could've run it out of Toys R Us or something with a merch promotion coinciding so both Nintendo and the store would've made bank to make up for whatever the cost of sending out equipment/people would've been. Gen 3 things were kinda dead but there were at least a few instances of event items being given at 10th anniversary events, I got the mew but that was it for my area and anywhere less populated was totally out of luck, and it's a shame because the idea of going to those remote locations to get mew, lugia, ho-oh, and deoxys was really cool but most players never got the chance. By gen 4 they had no excuse, all three new mythicals had cool events programmed in and all they had to do was distribute the items on mystery gift via wifi, instead it was a few location specific events and the one wifi distribution I can recall was platinum only for no valid reason and the azure flute never got distributed. Gen 5 we at least got to catch victiny and they put the item out early, but that was it, no in-game location for meloetta, keldeo, or genesect. Now except for eon ticket lati@s and delta episode deoxys in oras they don't even try to make it interesting it's just "here's ypur special delivery!" and for the in-game legends most just join your party or sit in a generic cave you can't enter until post-game but has no puzzle or trainers or places to explore beyond where it branches off from the path you take past it through the area during the story. It's getting worse not better, which sucks because there's no reason besides laziness with modern online services and they're already building the handful of maps anyways so why not put a little bit more into them?
