>>34214379I don't think every gen should have big changes. Good games come with a good in-game and post-game experience, and gen 5 delivered both excellently.
BW excelled because it forced you to use Pokémon you couldn't use before, a story that still tops every other story up to now, and having half the region to explore after the credits, not to count you HAVE to rebattle the league to actually crown yourself as champion. Oh, did I mention White Forest / Black City? Let's not forget the Entralink too.
BW2 excelled thanks to actually opening several new zones in the region, delivering a different story in the same region while also being a sequel, the possibility to visit the changes in the region, excellent new features (Join Avenue being the most notorious one), great post-game (PWT, half the region, White Forest and Black City being changed), and delivering a fuckhuge Pokédex at the time, topped only by XY.
All of that made those games great. It's not so much adding big changes but delivering a great gameplay experience. And I haven't mentioned infinite TM usage and HAs.
