It has dumb moments, and it's really cheesy, but there's a lot to appreciate, even in the others medias (books, audios, etc).

Yeah this is something the gets to me too. Not to mention 50+ years of continuity sprawling all over the place. Honestly a lot of plot holes in the series could be easily justified by traveling through alternate timelines and parallel universes, but the writers seem to seriously hate that so yeah.
