They decided to remove all good features from previous games, that's why there are no new Alolan forms either. I'm surprised they managed to keep most of the characters around.

USUM has definitively proved that actual bosses (Totems, Ultra Necrozma) are far superior while trainer fodder literally exist for no reason but some extra XP

The VS Seeker was largely just a gimmicky thing for grinding ineffectively though. I understand wanting a battle frontier equivalency but trainer rematches is near the bottom of the list of things any Pokemon game needs.
