Double Battles are vastly different from regular Pokemon Battles, and the player might not have caught another Pokemon leading to an unfair disadvantage.
Hoenn is also well known for its Double Battles, and we feel that it would take away from the player's experience of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire if other Regions had Double Battles as a common event.
It is for these reasons we do not include Double Battles within the Main Story of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, but we do however have several Multi-Battles, the Doubles Mode of the Battle Tree and Online Battling for you to enjoy.

"Grunt" is just a random noun, "Team Skull" can be seen as a proper name. Though I give you the fact general Spanish speaking countries like to translate that stuff too.

Actually later in the game there are a lot more double battles than I remember being in SM. Some even have actual strats like both using Frillish and spamming Surf to heal each other with Water Absorb.

It's been that way for nearly every single game. You run into 2-3 grunt gauntlet battles at least 4 times in every gen, but you always battle them one on one with a few exceptions. But you didn't complaint then, now did you?
