Ultra Moon is fun. Making the game harder for myself is the most fun I had in a pokemon game in a while. Using no items or Z-moves have the totem battles a fun challenge. Just finished the 2nd island and am excited to keep going.

oh i absolutely agree, the game gets as good as you make it.
I grinded bagons for 5 hours because i wanted to play through with a salamence, and so i did.
And guess what, he's in a dive ball too because that's how autistic i am.
Also playing through with a Phione i got in an egg from some anon, Phione is literally a shitty vaporeon but i still enjoy using it.

People actually use those in single player?

Do you also hunt for the most benefitial nature and best ability? Do you max your pokemon’s affection and pump them full of TMs?

I swear people ruined their single player experience because of multiplayer.
