Gen 5 is loved because people loved the story, the locations (despite the awful linearity), and the music.
I personally also loved it because there were so many choices of Pokemon to use. I have a dumb habit of not using the same pokemon over and over again after owning all the gba games a d trying to spark things up.
Some of the designs are uglyish, some of them grew on me. Also, the type combinations are pretty good that gen. The Bug type became great.
