We don't know your friend. Do they like exploring regions? do they like collecting things? are they into RPGs? Do they know anything about the anime/games/cards/movies? Have they heard the music? etc

He used to play Final Fantasy and other RPGs, and yes he likes collecting things and exploring stuff, but he has never bothered to check out Pokemon and now he wants to. So i want to help him out but i am not so good at it.

I can't say for sure, but I'd probably recommend to look up FR/LG, HG/SS, Emerald, Platinum, BW/2, then US/UM
Just don't start playing with USUM unless they don't really care.

Well, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are exclusive to 3DS and my friend doesn't own a 3DS, the rest of the games are on Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance so he can run the game on an Emulator.
