Why do people meme about how Platinum's supposedly a bad third version, it's one of my favorite experiences of Pokemon to date

Because it still has some issues and Sinnoh can be a rather irritating region to play through. For example, the snow route is rather bland is boring to trudge through and it's one of the more common complaints I've seen regarding the game.

Of course. It was one of your first. If you started with DP, which you probably did, Platinum would be such a step up that you couldn't help but think it was good by comparison.

Tbh all the regions before Gen 5 were boring. Game Freak weren't good at giving places their own identity then. I mean, play FRLG and look at how goddamn generic Kanto is. Gen 2 had the most character with the traditional Japanese theme, which is how HGSS is the exception.

I like Sinnoh because it felt the most out of any region like going on an adventure.

I got spoiled by how fast Gen V and VI's text and battles were, but I still liked Platinum when playing it for the first time last year.

One of the biggest dissapointments for me back in 2008, marketing made it sound like the whole region would get a big winter makeover hence the new outfits for the heroes but then I got the game and like 50% of the world looked the same, like 10% looked worse than DP, and snow only got added to like 10% of the map and just in tiny little patches.
