Man, if you could go back in time to the moment XY was announced, what would you tell your yourself about it and the 3ds era in general?
I'd tell myself that they were pretty lackluster games. I'm going to love most of the new mechanics they introduced(Megas, Fairy type, UBs, and Alolan forms) but that's it. Other than that, the 3ds era was just a boring slog. Also, don't get your hopes up for a certain feature to return in a certain pair of remakes that are finally happening.

By some freak chance I just happened to not be that interested in XY in the first place. Something about it just didn't click, I think that skepticism allowed me to take in the disappointment of the 3DS era better.

Go play it again and try saying that again. X/Y were so unbelievably mediocre its not even funny. Its like everyone who played them holds some kind of deranged nostalgia and parades them without remembering how linear, rodblocked and tedious the actual story of the game itself was.

They are, their bodies are a lot smaller and thinner, and heads bigger -(shoulder:head ratio) than the XY models, they also have less detail. They are somewhere in between XY and SM models.

They also have flatter colors and less high lights and shadows. XY models were very detailed.

As flawed as they were, they were the most hype of the new mechanics imo. Everyone was waiting to see if their favorites would get one. Plus, from AN aesthetic standpoint it really further adds to the idea of having an ace mon on your team be unique from everything else.

all the hype for megas died for me when I realized how stupidly broken they were. Instead of keeping their promise of giving them to underpowered and popular pokemon they gave them to already powerful and popular pokemon

I still remember that trailer that had the gen I Hyper Beam sound and people were speculating if they changed it back to knocking out the Pokemon skips the recharge. God, I wish it did.

I find Kalos the blandest of all regions, specially the cities. Lumiose is just gray wall after gray wall and the cafes are devoid of soul. It was either a extremely gorgeous and detailed city or a bland forgettable one there was no in-between.

Not that anon but they could have done a lot more. I didn't even feel Lumiose was particularly French. It was just a watered down and bland version of french architecture and aesthetics, they didn't even bother making the museum look anywhere remotely close to the Louvre.

Unova did feel like New York, pre-Unova games really felt like Japan, specially how they recreated Kansai. Alola does feel like Hawaii. Kalos doesn't feel like anything in particular.

For fucks sakes, Kalos literally tells you to throw out your starters and gives you the kanto starters WITH their mega stones. Where the fuck is the mega evo for my Gen 6 starter? I play pokemon for new experiences, not the same old crap i've played since 1997.

I'm bitter at both. I should've dropped pokemon after the golden revival days of the DS era. yet some force compels me to still buy each new one hoping they'll be better, except they're not. They never are, and it just keeps getting worse. Just reboot RBY on switch already nintendo, we all know its what you're planning on doing anyways.

This picture should have reminded me that I wasn't going to get anything more than linear routes. The transition to 3D from the 2D style is still horrible to this day. With the power of the Switch they no longer have an excuse to keep the games so restrictive.
