The most common comparison recently is b2w2 vs usum, not the whole of gen 5 vs 7

b2w3 were just extremely polished games. they gave you the sense that game freak cared and wanted to make up for no remakes in the generation because they didn't want two remakes on the same system

usum on the other hand seems like the minimum game freak thought they could get away with. in the short term it worked, but it might cost them

I went back and played Black again a couple months ago and it's nowhere near as handhold like as gen 7.
Gen 7 gives you some unnecessary cutscene every other step you take involving a major area.
Gen 5 is linear in a literal map sense but it feels like your own adventure as opposed to your "friend" and Lillie being on your ass the whole game which isn't fun a second time through the game for most people. Even more so when you think about how many people didn't like that about S/M anyways.

Problem is BW were decent foundations and b2w2 were good followups that could stand on their own, had flaws yeah but pretty ok. Sun & Moon were barebones and had major issues while Ultra is just the "Better version" of it, leaving the original versions obsolete.

Nothing more to see. They're better than Gen 6 and 7 combined, that's for sure. The only reason people bitch and whine about Gen 5 are mostly the iffy Pokemon designs, and genwunners sperging, other than that everything else was great. Games sold great and the region was all around beautiful, new features were nice, music top tier, basically everything but half the Pokemon designs were great.

No,that shit almost killed the series,BW2 is a huge apology for the mess BW was, It's just your average first version with a shitter dex distribution and try hard and copies from other gens designs forced down your throat but it's good you acknowledged that half the dex is shit,the only two great features about BW was infinite TMs and the seasons that a lot of people seem to forget for some reason,but yeah Bw2 alone wrecks gen6 and gen7

Also music and designs are subjective but it's funny how a lot of people agree that half of the Unova dex it's a joke

He's right though. BW locking out all the old pokemon was a terrible move. It did result in shit-tier dex distribution, probably also contributed to the shitty evolution levels, and only 155 pokemon is too little for a regional dex in the 2010s. Besides that, GF needs to have more self-awareness than to instantly alienate everyone they'd brought back into the fold with nostalgia. The constant pandering to nostalgiafags is GF still apologising to them.

FRLG are straight-up remakes of RB, and even then the decision to not allow Golbat to evolve until post E4 was a decision they've been soundly criticised for. RSE had 202 pokemon. Also, BW came after four straight gens with 200+ pokemon per regional dex (excluding FRLG).

Yeah Frlg made the wrong choice of not having the new evos for the Kantomons pre postgame but it was a remake of RB so only having Kantomons on Kanto was a decent but stupid choice

RS had a good distribution or decent at worse,the dex being around 150 was okay on gen3

Now we have to pander to gen 1 every single generation from now, congratulations.
