Sun and Moon are an exception since it was a bit of a breath of fresh air with things like the ride Pokemon and the story was pretty nice. BW is also an exception for almost the same reasons, having a nice story and all. They are able to stand on their own compared to their successors for one reason or another, while the others are either eclipsed by remakes or successor games.
Crystal and Yellow are Good. Better than GS and RB. More content, more to enjoy. Yellow is pushing it a bit, but walking around with Pikachu is nice. ORAS is superior to the original RS thanks to its modern updates, although it's lacking in aspects like... well, no Battle Frontier.
FRLG are Great, superior to the originals with updated mechanics and the Sevii Islands are cool. Emerald and Platinum are objectively superior to their predecessors with a lot more content (like... well, the Battle Frontier). USM is ranked here for a similar reason.
Finally, I truly believe B2W2 and HGSS to be the series best. B2W2 continues the story of BW and has the greatest postgame in the series. There's just a fuck ton of stuff to do, like the PWT and re-exploring once old parts of Unova. HGSS is similar, being far superior to the originals and even incorporates elements of Crystal. Walking Pokemon is also really, really fun. It's also got the Battle Frontier.
This is of course, just my opinion. None of the games are truly bad or unplayable. At worst, they're just okay.
