No? You don't think Absol is the least bit doggish, with its Lone Wolf persona? I think it is at least slightly inspired by wolves. I know it's more of a mountain lion/cougar, and the creature it's based on is more of a horned bovine if anything.
I've always put Absol in the Eeveelutions camp; takes inspiration from cats, dogs and foxes, but in the end is none of these things. Absol is a beast. If it were a real animal, no doubt we would have a name for it and it wouldn't be classified as canine or feline. It is Absol, and Absol is all that it is.
I think whoever designed it might've been thinking about mountain goats too. Just subconsciously.
