Didn't they say that the Switch game would be "disruptive"? Only thing I can think of as to what they mean by this is not starting a new gen even though we're transitioning to new hardware. Only thing I can think of are Kanto remakes because they seem to like Kanto references lately, or Sinnoh remakes since it fits the overall theme of time and space the series has now.

i honestly think its a total tossup whether theyll do gen 8 or reboot the series starting with gen 1 or 1+2 and work forward from there or not reboot the series but start with a pair of remakes (either DP or Kanta again)

With the Sinnoh bit, it's much easier to get people to shell out $60 for a new game, but if it's the same amount of content as DLC, people will not buy it because "too expensive". All the differences Yellow would add is Pikachu following you and Team Rocket in the story, it would cause severe backlash because it would be very small bits of data to just implement that feature for like a $5 price tag with the Kanto pack.

why does everyone expect the first switch pokemon in 2018? this is gamefreak we're talking about...if they pump it out that fast while making the transition from 3ds to switch will

Because that's what they said, and have they ever delayed a game before? I think they would rather release according to schedule rather than making the games the best they could be, if they had more time on gen 7 they could've done things like make double battles laggy for one thing.

oh i wasnt aware GF already committed to that. in that case i think it's pretty much confirmed to be a pair of remakes. would be way too much to juggle gen 8 + first HD pokemon/new hardware in ~1 year for GF

I agree with you, there just isn't enough ample time to make a game from the ground up by then. I think I remember the Gamefreak devs saying they wouldn't make a Switch game until they saw how successful the console was, leaving March at the very minimum as to when development time started, a year is hardly enough time for a high quality game. Either it's a remake or port, or /vp/ will be justified in saying the games are a rushjob this time.

even if they started designing gen 8 right after SM was finished (there was probably a refractory period in reality) im still dubious thats enough time to do everything that entails and also get their bearings with HD development. a lot of developers have gotten fucked by the transition, and these guys cant even get games to run at stable framerates without 3D on the 3DS after several 3DS projects... i just think its way more realistic to expect a remake from them if they are targeting 2018

Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely possible they started working on it after the Switch launched but I always believed gen 7 was going to be the last games for the 3ds because Game Freak likes to improve the graphics every gen and they used all the power the 3ds has in these last couple games.

Where do the game go if they can improve the games visuals on the 3ds? They have no choice to put it on the Switch.

If they don’t release a 2018 game they’re going to have fuck all for the merchandise side of things. Unless maybe it’s Spring of 2019 when they do it but that’s the latest I can imagine the games getting released.

At this point I can't really imagine them releasing the Switch game for 2018's holiday season. Is that long enough to build the hype? They still need to build the Switch's install base a bit more.
Ever since the Wii I've always seen the Nintendo's home consoles in two phases. The first phase is Before Smash Bros. The second phase is After Smash Bros.
People were REALLY anticipating Smash 4 Switch to come out already. Melee HD has been on the horizons for some time. If 2018 goes by without any information on Smash lots of people will be disappointed and desu I can't really see that happening. Furthermore people are EXTREMELY desperate for a new Animal Crossing game.
Please, Nintendo. Give me my perfect storm of Switch Smash, Animal Crossing and Pokemon. Plz.

I’ve wanted Smash Bros since I picked up the Switch on launch day but at this point i’d much rather wait and get a brand new Smash 5 instead of a Smash 4 Deluxe

Dude, Nintendo themselves are projecting 14 million Switches sold in it's first year and pledge to make 25-30 million in the next year. Since they got fucked with the WiiU's warehousing costs, they don't make what they don't think they can sell, Pokémon is the only franchise left on Nintendo's books that could realistically shift a majority of them alone. It's next year, probably around this time.

Spring 2019 might be a good time frame.

They can spend the next year showing off what to expect, and that gives people enough time during the holiday season to get their Switches in preparation.

Plus... up until XY which adopted a worldwide release, wasn't early spring (maybe summer for some games, I remember B2W2 being summer) the release date for Pokemon games here?

That’s definitely possible and i’d absolutely love that but if they have Yoshi, Kirby, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Pikman 4, Metroid AND Pokémon in one year then that would be might be overkill.

With Nintendo wanting to ship 25-30 million units next year, Pokémon is the only game I can see that would make those units sell. And even though they never confirmed it, 2018 has been the initial time from since it was announced at e3. So Pokémon has to be a lock.

Give Metroid it’s own time to shine in Spring 2019 and Smash can be the Holiday 2019 game

I won't be mad if you're right. Supposedly GF has a ton of unused animations that they created for the 3DS games. If they built those games with the Switch's eventuality in mind and really prepared for the future maybe this time next year is possible. I know for sure that would 100% guarantee I purchase a Switch in 2018.
