I think they could make it work if they showed the "trainer" and Pokemon bonding like normal outside of a battle. The problem is they gave the protagonist a Zekrom.

Yeah for a spinoff-only idea it's not bad. Of course, like Colosseum I would imagine the pool of Pokemon would be limited. Maybe one for each type.
